Sereno camp on impeachment hearing: Garbage fishing expedition
The camp of Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno has called the impeachment proceeding against her as “garbage” as it was being used as a “fishing expedition” for evidence against her.
“It has always been our position that the people’s money should never fund a fishing expedition and unfortunately, this was what exactly happened in Wednesday’s hearing,” said one of her spokepersons, lawyer Josa Deinla, in a statement.
Deinla said the first hearing was marked by several requests from lawyer Larry Gadon who filed the impeachment complaint to subpoena witnesses and documents.
“It is pretty clear that Mr. Gadon’s allegations have no strong and solid bases, owing to his failure to provide the justice committee with evidence he claimed to have personal knowledge of,” she said.
“We are right from the beginning that his impeachment complaint was nothing but garbage and should have not been entertained in the first place,” Deinla stressed.
