Si Calida lang ‘yan: Guevarra denies DOJ’s involvement in reviewing Trillanes’ amnesty

The Department of Justice (DOJ) was not involved in the review of the amnesty given to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said on Wednesday.
Guevarra made the clarification after Trillanes called him incompetent for being unaware that the rebellion and coup d’ etat cases filed against the senator were dismissed due to the amnesty granted to him by former President Benigno Aquino III in 2011.
“The DOJ was not involved at all in the review of his amnesty,” the secretary said on Wednesday.
“And I don’t make ad hominem arguments,” he also said.
Guevarra believes that Trillanes, a former Navy lieutenant, had not admitted guilt for his participation in the 2003 Oakwood mutiny and the 2007 Manila Peninsula siege.
“You have to specify the offenses you are admitting to be guilty of, not just a general statement that you admit breaking the rules,” he explained.
