Si daddy magde-desisyon! Paolo Duterte’s resignation ain’t final yet- Sara
Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte’s resignation isn’t final yet despite his surprise announcement before the city council on Christmas Day, his sister said.
Facing reporters Monday (December 25), Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said her brother’s resignation needs to be accepted by their father, President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Only the President can accept the resignation of the Vice Mayor,” Sara, an abogado, said.
While awaiting the President’s decision, Sara said her brother is on leave from the Office of the Vice Mayor.
Asked if their father will accept Paolo’s resignation, the mayor said: “Best if you ask the President about his reaction.”
Section 45(a) of the Local Government Code (Republic Act 7160) provides that permanent vacancies in the sangguniang panlalawigan or sangguniang panglungsod of highly urbanized cities and independent component cities will be filled by the President, through the Executive Secretary.
In a speech that shocked city councilors, Paolo said he is resigning effective Christmas Day because of controversies linked to his first marriage to c.
Among these are rumors about his alleged links to smuggling and his public spat with his daughter with Sumera, Isabelle.
Hinting that his former wife may have a hand in the controversies he was involved in, Duterte said: “The other person in this failed relationship is incorrigible and cannot be controlled. And I take responsibility for all that as a result of a wrong decision to marry at a young age.”
Sara said she and her father knew about Paolo’s decision before he made the announcement.
