Si Trillanes lang ang puntirya? Guevarra unsure if amnesty of ex-mutineers will be voided
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra admitted he remains unsure if there will be others whose amnesty will also get voided.
“For now , the focus is on Sen. Trillanes’ amnesty grant,” he told reporters.
President Rodrigo Duterte had already issued Proclamation No. 572 which voided the amnesty granted to Trillanes over his participation in the 2003 Oakwood mutiny and the 2007 Manila Peninsula siege.
“It is up to the President what he wants to do with the grant of amnesty to other individuals,” Guevarra said since other persons who joined Trillanes in the two incidents were also granted amnesty.
“Executive clemency involves the exercise of discretion, and the president as chief executive and commander-in-chief enjoys a lot of freedom in exercising this prerogative,” he explained.
After the amnesty of Trillanes got voided, Department of Justice (DOJ) sought the revival of the coup d’etat and rebellion cases against Trillanes before the Makati City courts.
