Sibak agad! Tugade to fire DOTr officials representing big businesses
Despite being a businessman, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade has no soft spot for Department of Transportation (DOTr) officials who are working to get plum projects for big corporations.
During the House appropriations committee’s hearing on DOTr’s proposed 2017 budget Friday (Sept. 9), Tugade vowed to axe DOTr employees who would be found to have a conflict of interest.
He made the assurance after House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, who used to be transportation secretary, said it has been a practice in past administrations for big names in the business sector to put their “representatives” in key government positions to protect their vested interests.
In response, Tugade vouched for his team’s integrity and said he needed his staff to work. to Alvarez’s remark,
“Kailangan ko ho sila para magabayan ako. Pero kung makakakita ako ng conflict of interest, hindi na ho ako maghihintay ng isang imbestigasyon. Sisibakin ko ho sila agad, pagka’t andito ako upang pagsilbihan ang bayan at ang ating Pangulo,” he said.
“I will not surround myself with people who have vested interests. If I see conflict of interest, I will not take that sitting down,” Tugade added.
