Singilin na lang sa Malacañang! Duterte: Cops facing cases can choose their abogados
Policemen who will be facing charges for doing their duty have the option to select their own abogados– and the government will pay for it, President Rodrigo Duterte said Wednesday (August 8).
In a speech at the Philippine National Police’s 117th anniversary in Camp Crame, Duterte said policemen facing charges could call the Palace for legal assistance.
“You have to do is call the police office. I have a small cubicle there manned by police and military. And that unit takes care of police and soldiers who find themselves in a fix and I will provide you the lawyer,” he said.
Duterte said policemen could also choose their own abogados and he will settle the bill.
”Just tell them that, No, the mayor will pay you,'” he said.
Duterte, however, clarified that the payment for the abogados still has to follow government audit rules.
“We are bound by the law to follow the auditing rules. Maybe I will bargain. If you ask for 50,000 for this, ‘Can you make it 35 or 30?’ Anyway, this guy is doing it in the name of public service,” he said.
Duterte made the assurance to help policemen as he ordered them to continue going after drug suspects despite the threat of facing cases. He said he will never allow his men to go to jail for doing their job.
