Sipsip much? Quimbo calls Alvarez mature leader, deep thinker
Liberal Party (LP) member, House Deputy Speaker Miro Quimbo wants to remain in Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez’s good side.
Quimbo heaped praises on the tough-talking Alvarez Tuesday (March 21) even as the LP’s alliance with ruling party, PDP-Laban entered a very awkward phase last week.
This was after PDP-Laban Secretary-General Alvarez publicly said that he intended to file an impeachment complaint against Vice President Leni Robredo. Robredo just happens to be LP’s interim chairperson.
Incidentally, on Monday, lawyer Oliver Lozano and former election candidate Melchor Chavez forwarded a six-page impeachment complaint against Robredo to the office of House Speaker. The two Marcos loyalists are seeking Alvarez’s endorsement.
“I think the Speaker has said it, but obviously the Speaker is our leader. He’s a very mature leader and we are confident that he will take on a position that is going to be healthy for the House. Meaning ‘wag tayong magpagamit diyan,” Quimbo said of the Lozano-Chavez complaint.
According to the deputy speaker, Alvarez is smart enough to know what to do regarding the “sham” complaint.
“I know Speaker Bebot. Malalim ang kanyang pag-iisip. Marunong siyang makinig sa mga taong nakapaikot sa kanya. At sigurado akong nakikita niya ‘yung mas malawak na magiging epekto nito sa House of Representatives (HOR) magiging kasangkapan tayo sa pamumulitika ng maraming tao,” he said.
There are 27 LP members in the PDP-Laban-led Supermajority in the HOR. Quimbo is the highest-ranked House official among them. #
