Sobrang lakas ng Sanofi! Dick claims Ubial was under pressure to keep mum on dengue vaccine
Department of Health (DOH) Sec. Paulyn Ubial was pressured to keep silent on the P3.5-billion dengue vaccine program of the previous administration.
Sen. Richard Gordon made the revelation during a radio interview Thursday to explain whu his blue ribbon committee was practically stonewalled during its probe last year.
“Ang nakita ko ang may pressure si Paulyn eh, si (ex) Sec. Ubial. Kaya medyo, sabi ko hintayin ko munang matapos yung appointment nitong si Sec Paulyn ubial. Hindi sya makapagsalita eh. Tapos yung mga nagsasalita natatakot kasi sya baka hindi sya mapayagan sa Commission on Appointments (CA), hindi sya ma confirm,” he said.
“I think she really wanted to say it pero natatakot sya dahil malakas talaga si (then DOH) Sec. (Janet) Garin sa mga congressmen, marami silang -kamag-anak na congressmen at marami rin silang kaibigan,” Gordon said.
Ubial failed to secure the nod of the powerful bicameral appointments body last Oct. 10, not because of the said issue but due to allegations that she committed grave abuse of power and usurpation of authority in suspending the allowances and salary adjustments of all employees of Philhealth.
“Talagang ang lakas nitong Sanofi hanggang napagsabihan na sila ng DOH (recently) na stop advertising,” Gordon said, referring to the pharmaceutical company Sanofi Pasteur which made the Dengvaxia dengue vaccine.
