Sotto has 15 senators backing his Senate presidency, sources say
It’s in a bag, so to speak, as far as assumption of Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III as the 24th Senate president next week.
Unimpeachable sources intimated that Sotto has the support of 15 senators, 14 of them already signed a manifesto of sort calling for a “reorganization” of the upper chamber leadership and his election as the “new Senate president.”
Sen. Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri will be his replacement as majority leader, sources added.
Zubiri was the unanimous choice for the said post, a position he held from 2008 to 2010, when he was first elected as senator.
Among those who already “signed” the resolution are Senators Sonny Angara, Nancy, JV Ejercito, Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Win Gatchalian, Richard Gordon, Gregorio Honasan, Panfilo Lacson, Loren Legarda, Manny Pacquiao, Ralph Recto, Joel Villanueva, Cynthia Villar and Zubiri.
Sen. Grace Poe who is currently abroad is expected to affix her signature on Friday.
