Sotto, Honasan back deportation of EU politiko: Nanggugulo lang sa Pinas
Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III and Sen. Gregorio Honasan have rallied behind the government’s deportation of Italian activist Giacomo Filibeck.
“Eh undesirable alien ‘yun. Nanggugulo lang sa Pinas,” Sotto said in a text message to reporters.
Honasan, also considered as an ally of the Duterte administration like Sotto, practically said that the government is well within its power to bar Filibeck entry to the country and order his deportation.
“There are universal human rights, and there are laws governing rights and privileges of citizens in every country that should not infringe on the ability of govt to protect life liberty and property. Everything else is procedural,” Honasan commented.
Opposition senators condemned the treatment given to Filibeck, an official of the Party of European Socialists, who arrived in Cebu to attend the Akbayan party-list congress last Sunday.
Justice Sec. Menardo Guevarra said that Filibeck, as a tourist, is not allowed to engage in partisan political activity.
“It is unlawful for aliens staying in our country to engage in partisan political activities and the government has the right to refuse entry to those who have committed these illegal acts in the past,” Guevarra said.
