Sotto: NPC eyeing 12 Senate candidates
The Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) is likely to come up with a 12-man senatorial slate that they will endorse in next year’s midterm elections, Senate President Vicente Sotto on Thursday said.
“Sa dami nung malalakas naming kursunada, baka umabot na ng dose eh. Hindi lang eight (candidates), (baka) maging 12 na,” he said to reporters in an interview.
Sotto, however, underscored that the NPC will not be fielding a complete 12-man slate but will support a coalition endorsing their chosen candidates.
When asked who would likely end up in their list, the Senate chief begged off saying that the matter is yet to be formally discussed by the party.
“Patawarin nyo na ako muna. I’d rather not name names dahil baka may maiwan ako magtampo pa. Hindi pa namin napapag-usapan ng buo eh. Napag-usapa na namin ‘yun informally,” he stressed.
“We will support a coalition, to put it officially. That is what we plan. The NPC plans to support a coalition and malaking bagay pag sinabing NPC will support a coalition sapagkat maraming NPC in the congressional districts, in the provinces, in the municipalities and in the cities. So these candidates can freely go to these areas and campaign with the help of the NPC member,” said Sotto.
