The spat continues: Erdogan accuses Merkel of supporting terrorists
German Chancellor Angela Merkel finds “absurd” the accusations being thrown at her by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Erdogan earlier accused her of supporting terrorists during an interview with A Haber TV.
According to an Al Jazeera article published online on March 13, Merkel described the accusations as “clearly absurd.”
“The chancellor has no intention of taking part in a game of provocation,” her spokesman Steffen Seibert said in a statement.
Turkey and Germany had a row after German authorities, over security concerns, took back permission for rallies where Turkish ministers were supposed to speak to expatriates ahead of a referendum on expanding presidential powers.
Erdogan earlier compared Germany’s behavior with Nazi-era actions.
