Special treatment! Duterte assures Medvedev of comfortable housing for Russian drug suspects
The two Russian nationals arrested for allegedly smuggling illegal drugs into the Philippines will not be spending time in a regular jail.
President Rodrigo Duterte has assured Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev that Yuri Kirdyushkin and Anastasia Novopashina will be detained in a comfortable house.
“I would just like to say that we have a working functional justice system here and they will get a fair trial and that they will be detained in a comfortable house that… It’s not… It’s still under investigation,” he said during their bilateral talks in Manila Monday (November 13).
“Whether true or not, we will find out but I will see to it that they are treated fairly and no additional stress on their person that will happen,” Duterte added.
According to reports, Kirdyushkin was arrested with about 10 kilos of cocaine at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in October 2016.
Novopashina was arrested by authorities the following month after finding nearly 13 kilos of cocaine in her luggage.
