Stage mother ang peg! Atienza slams Legarda for meddling in son’s franchise bid
Buhay party-list Rep. Lito Atienza has scored Senator Loren Legarda for supposedly influencing lawmakers to approve the franchise application of her son’s solar company in haste.
Atienza told the tabloid Abante that he heard about Legarda’s hand in the franchise application of Solar Para sa Bayan Corporation (SPBC) from his colleagues.
“‘Yun ang pakiusap ng maraming ano eh,” he said.
The House committee on legislative franchises headed by Palawan Rep. Franz Alvarez approved House Bill 8179 granting a franchise to operate to SPBC only after two hearings.
SPBC is owned by Leandro Leviste, Legarda’s son with former husband, ex-Batangas governor Antonio Leviste.
Atienza said it was apparent that the measure was railroaded because even the House committee on rules did not deliberate on it.
“Sa committee on rules hindi man lang tinake up, hindi tinake up, basta pasado na. Huwag namang ganyan, sabi ko. Kitang-kita ‘yan,” he said.
Atienza has asked Majority Leader Rodolfo Andaya not to fast-track the passage of SPBC’s franchise application.
“Nakikiusap ako kay Majority Leader Andaya, ‘wag niyang basta ipasok ‘yan. Ibalik niya sa komite at himay-himayin natin,” he said.
Atienza has admitted to being wary of SPBC because it is a new company with limited track record to speak of.
“Ang puhunan niya isang milyong piso lang noong una. Dinadagdagan, ginawang isang bilyon bago nag-file ng application sa Kongreso,” he said.
