Style ninyo bulok! Alvarez’s ‘no-el’ to benefit 1/3 of House members who can’t run anymore – Drilon
Senator Minority Leader Franklin Drilon cited 84 reasons why Speaker Bebot Alvare was adamant in pushing for ‘no-el’ (no elections) in 2019.
“The cat is out of the bag, ika nga. Cha-cha is being pushed in order to postpone the election in 2019 , dahilan sa mga 84 congressmen ay hindi na pwedeng tumakbo dahilan sa term limit,” said Drilon in a radio interview.
Among the 84 members of the 297-strong Congress who have reached their third-term limit is former President and Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Drilon, however, failed to mention that at least six of his peers would reach their two six-term limit by 2019 and would also benefit from a no-el.
“”Ang Cha-cha, ang purpose nito ay no-el. Bantanyan po natin. Yung elected officials can be replaced by the President after the term of officials expire by June 30, 2019. Kung walang halalan, anong mangyayari?” said Drilon.
“Kaya lahat iyan ay i-appoint ng President dahilan sa walang holdover. Ang mainit na debate ay kung may holdover ba o wala, dito sa ating Saligang Batas, ang termino ng officials ay mag-expire sa June 30,2019. Kung i-postpone, anong mangyayari on July 1, 2019,” he added.
Drilon was the same scenarion in the Aquino administration when he pushed for the synchrnization of the nationalaand Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao in the 2013 elections which promtped the appointment of interim officials (Mujiv Hataman) to replace those whose terms have expeired.
Since only a law was need to uphold the postponement of elections, Drilon expected Alvarez to move heaven and earth to ensure that this would be approved in the House.
