Talasan ang mata! Duterte urges PSC: Recruit IPs, out-of-school youths as athletes
President Rodrigo Duterte has urged the Philippine Sports Commission to consider indigenous peoples (IPs) and out-of-school youths in recruiting new athletes.
Duterte on Wednesday (September 13) said the Philippines’ hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian Games will be an opportunity for the PSC to look for talented athletes nationwide.
“Thus, I enjoin the PSC to widen its scope and recruit nationwide. Look for them in non-traditional places and include members of the indigenous tribes and out-of-school youth,” he said at the awarding ceremony for Filipino medalists of the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Malacañang.
“Let us give them a chance to hone their talent and live up to their fullest potentials,” he added.
The Philippine team bagged 121 medals, including 29 golds, in the regional sporting competition held in Malaysia.
The medalists received cash incentives and a citation from Duterte.
