Tama na satsat! Solon urges Cayetano to use arbitral court’s ruling vs. China
By John Carlo Cahinhinan
Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Partylist Representative France Castro urged Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano to use the arbitral ruling on the South China Sea as a “leverage” against Beijing instead of issuing motherhood statements.
“Si Secretary Cayetano, tigilan na niya yung pagpapa-pogi at kung ano-anong mga rhetorical (statements) na sinasabi at pagpapaganda ng mga sinasabi,” she said.
The militant lawmaker said the Philippine government has a big leverage in claiming several areas in the disputed South China Sea Territories due to the international arbitration court’s ruling nullifying China’s “Nine Dash Line” claim.
“Ang laki ng leaverage natin kasi nga nanalo tayo (sa UN Tribunal),” said Castro.
Cayetano earlier used the local basketball language “puso” when asked how he will handle the current situation of the sea row.
“Kumbaga sa basketball po matangkad sila, mas masustansya kinakain nila… pero tayo puso,” said Cayetano.
The partylist solon advised Cayetano to lay down a concrete strategy in dealing with China.
A few weeks ago, local fishermen based in Zambales and Pangasinan accused the China Coast Guard of taking their best catch in the Scarborough Shoal in exchange for few packs of items which include cigarettes, instant noodles, and Chinese beer.
President Rodrigo Duterte described the incident as part a “barter” activity but Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jianhua said he will conduct an investigation on China Coast Guard personnel whoed allegedly harassing Filipino fishefolks by taking their catch.
