Tapos na ang pahinga! Robredo rallies party mates as LP starts rebuilding ranks
Vice President Leni Robredo has urged her party mates from the Liberal Party to go back to their roots as they start rebuilding the organization following the May 2016 elections.
During the party’s National Executive Council meeting Thursday (August 10), Robredo advised her party mates to get past through the setbacks experienced by the party in the past year, such as the drastic reduction in its membership.
“[S]iguro iyong araw na ito, tapos na iyong pahinga, ‘di ba? Parang nagpahinga tayo ng isang taon, pinagbigyan natin, transition. [Pero] ito, it’s time to work. It’s time to rebuild the party,” she said.
As the highest elected official belonging to the LP, Robredo formally assumed chairmanship of the party at the meeting.
Despite being one of the newer members of LP, Robredo said a review of the party would show that it is made “for times such as this.”
“[I]yong shared aspirations natin—iyong shared values, iyong shared dreams—iyon iyong pag-uumpisahan natin. At iyon iyong magbibigay ng saysay dito, iyong common history din nating lahat. Iyon iyong magbibigay ng inspirasyon,” she said-.
Despite losing in the 2016 Presidential elections, and a consequent reduction in the party’s membership, Robredo said the fight is not yet lost for LP.
“Iyong ating pinagdaanan over the last elections, iyon din iyong pakiramdam ko. Hindi naman tayo natalo. Hindi naman tayo natalo kasi iyong laban natin, talagang laban na taas-noo nating ginawa,” she said.
