The big switch: Migz to become Majority Leader while Koko is demoted to committee chair
The senator accused of robbing Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III of his Senate seat in 2007 will find himself one of the top leaders of the chamber soon.
Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri will become the Majority Floor Leader as part of a looming Senate reorganization, a source confirmed to Politiko.
Zubiri will assume his new post after his colleagues elect Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III as Senate President.
And what of Pimentel? With senators having no intention of replacing Ralph Recto as Senate President Pro Tempore, he will be relegated to chairing the committees that Zubiri used to handle.
Apart from Sotto and Zubiri assuming the top two Senate leadership posts and Pimentel’s demotion, there will no longer be changes in the committee chairmanships.
Senator Richard Gordon, for instance, will remain head of the powerful Blue Ribbon Committee despite complaints about his handling of hearings.
The Senate’s reorganization may happen as early as next week since 15 senators have already signed the resolution supporting Sotto’s election as Senate President.
