Trabaho agad: Roque doesn’t need CA confirmation – Koko
New Presidential spokesman Harry Roque can carry out his duties without securing confirmation of the Commission on Appointments (CA), according to Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.
“The Presidential spokesman, in my opinion, need not be confirmed anymore by the CA (Commission on Appointments). The presidential spokesman does not run a department like the other secretaries,”
Pimentel explained to reporters in a text message.
Pimentel said the appointment of the presidential spokesman, like the presidential legal counsel and the Executive secretary, should be 100% left to the discretion of the President.
Pimentel also said he would let Roque do his job as he declined to give any expectations from the new Palace official.
“I will let him do his job kaya wala akong comment whatsoever,” Pimentel, president of PDP-Laban which is the party of President Duterte, said.
Insofar as Roque is concerned, unlike other Cabinet officials, the upper chamber leader said incoming Palace official need not have to go through confirmation proceedings.
Roque’s position will have a rank of Cabinet secretary.
Roque’s appointment, announced by Duterte last Saturday, Oct.28, will take effect on Nov. 6, replacing Ernesto Abella.
