Trillanes slams Duterte’s big sellout to China
Is an impeachment attempt against the President in the offing?
Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has denounced President Duterte for compromising the country’s territorial claims when he permitted China to explore Benham Rise.
“Ikaw pala ang nagbebenta ng teritoryo ng Pilipinas,” Trillanes wrote on Facebook, reacting to news reports about Duterte’s consent to the presence of Chinese ships in the country.
Duterte said last Monday he allowed Chinese survey ships into Philippine waters, contradicting the concern raised by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana over the foreign presence. He said he did not want to have a fight with China over Benham Rise due to improving economic relations between the two countries.
“They have no incursion because we have an agreement,” he said. “Some people are just blowing it up. We previously agreed. It was a research ship. We were advised of it way ahead.”
