Tuloy ang ligaya! Duterte: Jack Lam’s cheating would’ve continued if not for me
Macau-based gambling tycoon Jack Lam would have continued shortchanging the government when it comes to taxes if President Rodrigo Duterte didn’t order his arrest.
Speaking before members of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines in Malacanang Monday (April 3), Duterte shared that Lam was only remitting one percent of the earnings of his gambling operations in the Philippines since the term of the late President Corazon Aquino.
“And to this day kung hindi ko ipinaaresto ‘yung… Still one percent? Sinusuwerte ka,” he said.
Duterte said he was so angry at Lam’s boasting that he has all government officials in his pocket that he ordered the Chinese businessman arrested despite the absence of charges against him.
“And he was talking as if everybody was in his pocket. Ha ganun? ‘Arrest him.’ Sabi ng NBI, ‘What crime, sir?’ ‘Ah arrest him. Just place him behind bars and if he makes many noise throw him to the Manila Bay,” the President said of Lam.
Aside from evading taxes, Lam is accused of trying to bribe Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II and paying off two deputy commissioners of the Bureau of Immigration.
