Umabsent bigla! Was Salalima’s resignation behind Duterte’s snub of Globe’s Davao event?
Executives of Globe Telecom were probably surprised and disappointed when President Rodrigo Duterte failed to turn up for the launch of its Southeast Asia-United States Cable System Friday (September 22).
It’s surprising for Duterte to miss an event that’s held in Davao City. Members of the media were already informed of the President’s schedule days before and flew to his hometown to cover his appearance.
His absence got some quarters to speculate whether he’s laying low following the resignation of Informations and Communications Secretary Rodolfo Salalima.
News of Salalima’s sudden resignation leaked on Thursday (September 21), while the President was in Marawi City. He confirmed that his schoolmate from San Beda College wanted to leave the Cabinet “out of delicadeza.”
Salalima used to be Globe’s chief legal counsel and senior advisor before joining the government.
Politiko has reported that Salalima was forced to resign due to intense lobbying from Chinese firms and Duterte’s allies in connection with the government’s proposed P77.9-billion national broadband network project.
