Upheaval is coming? Villarin says rebellion could be option for Pinoys if Duterte can’t erase EKJ fear
Is Akbayan Rep. Tom Villarin hinting that President Rodrigo Duterte could face possible “rebellion” if the latter fails to quell Filipinos’ fear over extrajudicial killings (EJKs)?
“People’s perceptions are a gauge of how our society gives feedback to government. If government will not listen, this will eat all of us to despair. Rebellion becomes
our only hope,” Villarin said in a statement Monday, December 19.
The politiko gave the statement in the light of the results of a Social Weather Station (SWS) survey which showed that 8 out of 10 Filipino adults are worried about being victimized in EJKs.
This, as Duterte continues his all-out war against illegal drugs in the country. Reports said this crusade of the government has already claimed over 5,000 lives.
“When each of us don’t feel safe and worried that death will come to someone we know and love, it means that we are losing the war against drugs.
“We are losing not just our peace of mind but perhaps our own humanity,” Villarin said.
