UST Student Council slams choice of Mocha Uson for Thomasian Award: Di siya deserving!
The University of Santo Tomas Central Student Council (UST CSC) has denounced the grant of the Thomasian Award for Government Service to Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson.
In a statement released shortly after the awarding ceremony Sunday (January 21), the UST CSC said Uson “does not, in any way, embody the ideals of a real Thomasian.”
“With all due respect, Ms. Esther Margaux “Mocha” Justiniano Uson does not deserve an award that was supposed to be meant solely for outstanding Thomasian alumni,” it said.
UST Alumni Association President Henry Tenedero told CNN Philippines that Uson, a graduate of Medical Technology course, was chosen as a recipient of the award so she can “serve as an inspiration to other government workers, regardless of political affiliation.”
The UST CSC, however, noted that Uson is responsible for “politically motivated propaganda” against the opposition and an “avid spreader and citer of fake news.”
In light of Uson’s recognition, the UST CSC urged Thomasians to fight the spread of fake information and seek out facts.
“We encourage everyone to be critical on (sic) every information they receive even if it hails from supposedly credible sources,” it said.
