Villar: Getting endorsed by Sara is like getting endorsed by Rody
By Xave Gregorio
Receiving an endorsement from Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is just like getting an endorsement from her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, Senator Cynthia Villar said.
Asked in an interview Thursday (October 4) if she thinks that Sara’s endorsements would translate to votes nationwide, Villar replied, “Yes, kasi siyempre parang in-endorse ka ng President.”
But she added that Sara’s endorsement does not guarantee votes. “You have to do your job also. Nothing is guaranteed by anybody. You have to work hard,” Villar said.
Sara has become one of the most powerful politikos in the country after it was reported that she engineered the downfall of Davao del Norte 1st District Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, a key ally of her father, as House Speaker.
Since then, politikos from across the spectrum have been flocking to Sara’s regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago, including Villar’s Nacionalista Party (NP).
The regional party has endorsed its own senatorial slate, which includes NP stalwarts Villar, Deputy Speaker Pia Cayetano and Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos.
