Wag OA! Duterte admin should calm public on Dengvaxia – Noy

Former President Noynoy Aquino appealed to the Duterte administration to calm the public down instead of spreading messages that may induce panic on Dengvaxia.
“‘Di ba obligasyon ng gobyerno na mag-kalma? Pag kalma, makakausap mo nang maayos, mapapayuhan mo na,” Aquino said after testifying in the Senate probe into the Dengvaxia mess.
Duterte officials, including Health Secretary Francisco Duque and Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre, and even administration Senator Tito Sotto previously mentioned about Dengvaxia-related deaths. However, manufacturer Sanofi Pasteur said there are no such reported cases.
Aquino said the public has a tendency to think to the extremes when fed with insufficient information.
“‘Yung tao naman, in the absence of information, baka naman mapag-isip. Pwedeng lumala, at pag lumala, yung pinakamalala. Eh hindi naman ata equivalent yun,” he said.
Aquino stressed that the current administration must give the public the right information so they would be able to make right decisions.
Over P3 billion worth of Dengvaxia vaccines were purchased during Aquino’s term and were given to around 850,000 individuals before Sanofi Pasteur disclosed that it can lead to severe dengue among those who have not yet been infected.
