A freelance photographer of the New York Times has won the Pulitzer Prize for a photo he took for a story on the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.
Daniel Berehulak was named the winner the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news photography in an announcement via Twitter Tuesday (April 11).
Berehulak’s award-winning photo accompanied the news feature titled “They are Slaughtering Us Like Animals: Inside President Rodrigo Duterte’s Brutal Anti-Drug Campaign,” which was published on December 7, 2016.
For the story, Berehulak stayed in the Philippines for over 35 days to document the lives of 57 homicide victims and the families they left behind.
