Wala nang palusot! House readies detention center and subpoena compelling Imee Marcos to testify on P66M vehicle scam

Jun 30, 2017 @ 17:14

The House committee on good government and public accountability has released a copy of the subpoena ad testificandum issued to Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos compelling her to attend the July 25 hearing, a day after the State of the Nation Address, on the alleged P66 million million purchase without bidding of second-hand, overpriced buses, trucks and multi-cabs using tobacco funds.

The subpoeana signed last June 22 was signed by Committee Chair Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel and Speaker Bebot Alvarez.

“Failure to comply with this order is subject to penalty under the law,” the subpoena said.

Six of Marcos’ alleged cohorts in the scam have been detained by Congress for contempt after they refused testify on how the scam was perpetrated and who received the cash advances for the vehicles. The Court of Appeals has ordered Congress to release the six Marcos cohorts but House leaders have defied the order and even threatened to abolish the CA for interfering in the affairs of a co-equal branch.

Pimentel has also scheduled a media preview of the detention chamber for Marcos and individuals who could be cited in contempt and taken into custody for defying the House’s authority, or casting disrespect on the House, or impeding the ability of the House to perform its function.

Pimentel said this was “a one-time-only look-see (on Monday, July 3), organized solely to accommodate persistent requests from several news organizations for them to have a glimpse of the room and absolutely no other previewing of the chamber shall be authorized by the House Sergeant at Arms.”

‘This is the room where Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos may possibly be held, assuming she rejects the subpoena for her to testify at the July 25 hearing, and should the committee subsequently move to cite her in contempt,” said Pimentel.

“For now, this is merely a hypothetical detention room for an imaginary internee, and the committee is fully counting on Governor Marcos to do her duty and honor the subpoena served her, notwithstanding her public declaration that she intends to snub the hearing,” he added.
