Walang hadlang: Makati RTC can act on Trillanes’ cases despite SC plea- Guevarra
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra assured that the Makati City Regional Trial Court (RTC) will push through with acting on the appeals of the Department of Justice (DOJ) to issue arrest warrants and hold departure orders (HDO) against Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
Guevarra made the assurance even after Trillanes sought before the Supreme Court (SC) to stop the nullification of the senator’s amnesty.
“Unless restrained by the SC (Supreme Court), the trial courts may proceed,” he said on Saturday (Sept. 8).
The DOJ has already filed separate motions before Makati RTC Branches 148 and 150 asking that arrest warrants and hold departure orders (HDO) be issued against Trillanes.
Branch 148 is handling the coup d’etat case against Trillanes concerning the 2003 Oakwood mutiny.
On the other hand, Branch 150 is handling the rebellion case against Trillanes over his participation in Manila Peninsula siege.
The DOJ sought the arrest warrants and HDOs after President Rodrigo Duterte issued Proclamation No. 572 which declared as void amnesty granted to Trillanes over his participation in the two incidents of “military adventurism.”
Because of this, Trillanes last Sept. 6 filed a petition before the the Supreme Court (SC) to nullify the presidential proclamation which voided his amnesty.
