Walang kahirap-hirap! Commission on Appointments confirms 7 solons as colonels

In less than an hour, seven lawmakers, including House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, promoted to the rank of colonel were confirmed by the Commission on Appointments (CA) without any objections.
The powerful CA confirmed Alvarez, Senators Manny Pacquiao and Loren Legarda, House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas, House Deputy Speakers Gwendolyn Garcia and Bai Sandra Sema, and Cavite 5th District Rep. Roy Loyola as colonels of the military reserve forces.
Alvarez is now a colonel of the Philippine Navy-Marines, while Pacquiao, Garcia, Sema and Loyola are colonels of the Philippine Army.
Meanwhile, Legarda is now a colonel of the Philippine Air Force and Fariñas is a colonel of the Judge Advocate General Service.
Members of the CA, who usually pummel appointees and nominees with questions, were lax on the seven politikos and never asked them a single question during its session which barely lasted 10 minutes before Isabela 1st District Rep. Rodolfo Albano, the committee’s majority leader, moved for them to consider the solons’ nominations in plenary.
Senator Ping Lacson, chair of the Senate national defense committee, said he wanted to raise “intelligent questions to test fitness and qualifications from nominees” but chose not to because the seven politikos “are all [his] friends” and are “remarkable distinguished gentlemen and lady of the Philippine Congress.”
The newly-confirmed colonels received glowing endorsements from CA members who lavishly showered them with compliments on their competence.
