Weather weather lang! Duterte: I don’t like firing people but there’s a time to be in gov’t
President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday (February 13) said he does not like firing people, but had to due to wrongdoing.
In a speech at the oathtaking of new government officials in Malacañang, Duterte said he had to dismiss people working in government for various reasons.
“I have fired several and I hope I would not have to do it again because I do not like it. But I have fired so many officials of government for one reason or another,” he said.
Duterte mentioned Maritime Industry Authority administrator Marcial Amaro III and Commission on Higher Education chairperson Patricia Licuanan as among the officials he fired.
“I am not ready to say that they have sinned against the government. But maybe I’ll just say that there’s always a time to be in government and to be not in government,” he said.
Earlier this year, Duterte said he will fire over 40 police officials due to misdemeanor but changed his statement and clarified that he will review their cases first.
