Wedding bells for Senate president? Invitations will be sent if it’s true, Koko says
Will wedding bells be ringing anew soon for Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III? Pimentel was caught off guard when asked the question but his “fiancée” Kathryn Yu practically confirmed that it’s taking place anytime soon.
Yu was present during the necrological service for the late Senate President Edgardo Angara, hinting that it’s taking place sometime this year.
A Senate source said it’s likely to take place in July while another said sometime before Pimentel’s filing of his certificate of candidacy (COC) for his re-election in October.
“Malapit na,” was Yu’s reply when asked on the date of their union, which will be Pimentel’s second marriage, having been annulled from his first, former beauty queen Jewel May Comenares Lobaton.
The annulment of their marriage, first sought in 2013, was granted early this year by the Marikina City regional trial court (RTC).
Pimentel’s relationship with Yu, 35, was first revealed last year when the latter made her first appearance as partner of the Senate leader during the opening of the second regular session of Congress and at the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Duterte.
“He usually introduces me as his partner,” Yu told reporters.
When asked if she will soon be addressed as “Mrs. Pimentel” when Duterte delivers his third SONA in July, Yu said “Yes, sana…basta malapit na.”
As to Pimentel, 55, he refused to confirm or deny their impending union.
“Kung totoo yan, invitations will be sent in due time, kung totoo yan,” he said.
