Who’s got the money? ABS-CBN never got payment from Duterte for campaign ad
President Rodrigo Duterte is barking up the wrong tree by repeatedly accusing ABS-CBN of estafa for supposedly accepting the payment his camp made for a political advertisement without airing it.
That’s because ABS-CBN never accepted his money in the first place.
Politiko has learned that the media conglomerate turned down Duterte’s payment for a campaign ad because it used footage during the presidential debate hosted by ABS-CBN in April last year.
The ad, which was created by the then-Davao mayor’s team in response to a commercial paid for by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s camp, showed the faces of ABS-CBN executives, among them its Chairman, Gabby Lopez, and Chief Content Officer Charo Santos Concio.
ABS-CBN wanted the faces of its executives blurred or put out of focus for the sake of neutrality.
Duterte’s camp, however, objected to ABS-CBN’s condition for airing the ad.
The stalemate was the reason why Duterte’s commercial never went on air.
With the President incessantly attacking ABS-CBN over its supposed bias and bad business practice nowadays, it’s a good time to ask: Who got his ad money?
