Who’s supreme? ‘Iglesia ni Duterte’ meets Jesus Is Lord’s Eddie Villanueva
President Rodrigo Duterte met with Jesus Is Lord church founder Bro. Eddie Villanueva Tuesday (July 10) after drawing flak for criticizing God and teachings of Christianity.
Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo said he arranged the meeting between Duterte and Villanueva, which took place at the Malago Clubhouse inside the Malacañang compound.
Panelo said Duterte’s remarks were discussed during the meeting, which lasted for two hours.
“Brother Eddie was elated on the outcome of the dialogue,” he said.
In a video posted by the Presidential Communications Operations Office on Facebook, Duterte told Villanueva he’s sorry for the controversial remarks he made against God recently.
The President was criticized for calling God “stupid.”
“Sorry, God. I said sorry God if God is taken in a generic term by everybody listening,” he said.
Villanueva previously warned that JIL could mobilize 10 million of its believers to join a prayer rally condemning Duterte’s remarks if the President does not apologize.
Duterte has often joked he would create a new religion called “Iglesia ni Duterte” where believers can do whatever they want.
