Xinjiang ‘great wall of iron’ must be strengthened, says Xi. Here’s why
Chinese President Xi Jinping urged the fortification of the “great wall of iron” in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region for the protection of “stability”–which is apparently a huge deal in the region.
Xi made the pitch during a discussion in Beijing with lawmakers from Xinjiang.
“Let people of all ethnic groups feel the Party’s care and the warmth of the motherland,” Xinhua, in an article published online on March 10, paraphrased him as saying.
According to Xi, who is the Communist Part of China’s general secretary, it is a political duty to maintain stability in the said region.
Xinjiang, located in northwestern China, is the country’s largest province.
