De Lima mocks Farinas, Umali for hand-carrying her summon to Senate: Carry nila maging messenger
Sen. Leila de Lima blasted House Majority Leader Rudy Farinas and Oriental Mindoro Rep. Rey Umali for making a spectacle of the show cause order issued against her by the House of Representatives.
De Lima was puzzled why Farinas and Umali would bring the show cause order themselves to the Senate Secretariat last Wednesday.
Normally, de Lima said the House would just send a messenger to deliver the order to the recipient, who in this case was de Lima and not the Secretariat.
“Hindi ko alam yung purpose nila or reason why ganun ang naging ano… baka ayaw lang nila humarap sa akin. Kasi just imagine, sila mismo ang nag-serve. Meron namang mga relevant personnel, concerned staff sa House of Representatives na yun ang tungkulin nila na mag-serve ng mga ganyang processes. Pero sila mismo ang nagdala, those two congressmen,” said de Lima.
Farinas and Umali claimed that they delivered the order themselves because they were in the Senate for the bicameral conference committee hearings. But de Lima said that was just a bad excuse and that they were really intending to make a publicity stunt to milk the most coverage of their move to shame her.
“Ano ba naman klaseng katuwiran yun. Ginagawa ba nila dati yan? Di ba, sila mismo parang naging process servers sila,” said de Lima.
” All of this is for show. Lahat nga yan. Kaya nga ayaw kong i-honor, ayaw kong i-recognize yang proceedings na yan sa House kasi ganyan nga. Wala namang legitimate purpose yan, other than really to destroy me, to try to embarass me,” said de Lima.
The House is planning to cite in contempt de Lima for obstruction of justice when she ordered her former lover, Ronnie Dayan, not to attend the House committee probing her alleged acceptance of bribes from drug lords during her watch as Justice Secretary. De Lima claimed it was an advice and not an order and that she has no plan to honor the show cause order.
The House gave her 72 hours from receipt to reply.
