Over 100 youth groups have vowed to question before the Supreme Court (SC) the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to proclaim the wife of former National Youth Commission (NYC) chair Ronald Cardema, Ducielle, as representative Duterte Youth partylist.
“If the COMELEC Commissioners will proclaim the Duterte Youth and, in record, bastardize the partylist and electoral system, we will bring the fight to them,” read the statement issued by 122 youth groups.
“We will start with the Supreme Court,” they said.
These youth groups included groups from Garbriella, Anakbayan, Bahaghari, among many others.
They lamented that Duterte Youth’s continued existence and recognition is “a bastardization of the partylist system.”
“Duterte Youth is unregistered, with several pending cases, per the Omnibus Election Code. Under this law, the partylist should have never been included in the 2019 ballots for failure to meet the minimum requirements of publication,” the groups said.
“This makes the proclamation of Duterte Youth both illegal and unconstitutional,” they added.
