‘15-21’ ang hatian: Toss coin proposed to settle speakership row between Velasco, Cayetano
A person close to President Rodrigo Duterte has proposed a novel way to resolve the impasse in the speakership race involving Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco and Taguig Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano.
Politiko learned that the Duterte insider is proposing a “15-21” term sharing for the two lawmakers. The politiko who will be elected Speaker at the start of the 18th Congress will serve for 15 months. He will be followed by the second lawmaker, who will hold the post for a much longer period of 21 months.
But who between Velasco and Cayetano would agree to be the Speaker first?
Politiko’s source quoted the insider as saying that the matter could be resolved by a simple toss coin.
There’s no word yet if Cayetano and Velasco are open to the proposal. The Taguig lawmaker earlier said he is open to becoming Speaker for only a year and a half if it will settle the race once and for all.
Velasco, however, isn’t keen on sharing his term as Speaker, saying it will only caus confusion in the House of Representatives.
