Ayaw maging pangulo si Robredo! Randy David believes ‘Rev Gov’ clamor tied to rumors on Duterte’s ill health
Sociologist Randy David believes the fresh push of a pro-administration group for the establishment of a revolutionary government is linked to rumors about President Rodrigo Duterte’s alleged frail health.
In his August 23 column for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, David said the People’s Coalition for Revolutionary Government and Charter Change do not want Vice President Leni Robredo to lead the country in the event Duterte becomes incapacitated.
“Today, my sense is that some quarters are pushing it not so much to install federalism by shortcut as to manage a crisis of succession in the face of Mr. Duterte’s rumored declining health,” he said.
“It is clear that some people would do anything to eliminate Vice President Leni Robredo from the line of succession,” David added.
The pro-Duterte group recently posted a letter on social media appealing to Duterte to head a revolutionary government under a new Constitution until December 31, 2021.
The letter was signed by Bobby Brillante, who has the title, national coordinator for Revolutionary Government Committee, and by lawyer Francisco “Arlene” Buan, national spokesperson, of the Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte National Executive Coordinating Committee.
David reminded advocates of a so called “rev gov” about what happened during a similar crisis of succession in 1983, when the dictator Ferdinand Marcos was hounded by reports of ill health.
“A reminder to the advocates of RevGov: You can’t breathe new life to a tyranny that is drowning in its own corruption and incompetence. You can’t throw away an existing constitution without the explicit approval of the people and the tacit consent of the military,” David said.
