Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Thursday (Sept. 17) expressed support over legislative proposals to remove the secretary of health as chairman of the board of directors of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
“I agree with some legislators na hindi kailangan ang secretary of health ang mag-chair because first and foremost its the state health insurer,” he said during an interview on CNN Philippines.
“Kaya kailangan people with expertise in the insurance business, in management, finance,” he pointed out.
Meanwhile, he reiterated that Duque is not yet cleared of wrongdoings concerning alleged anomalies at the PhilHealth even though the health secretary is not included in the report submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte.
“It (report) doesn’t say that when we conduct further investigations, when we go more deeply into the evidence or other transactions or other areas of fraud , we are absolutely and totally exonerating the secretary or the other members of the board,” Guevarra said.
