Unacceptable! Villarin describes Arroyo draft Charter a devious move
By JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINAN
An opposition solon took a swipe at the draft federal Constitution endorsed by the House leadership.
Akbayan party-list Rep. Tom Villarin described the Resolution of Both Houses No. 15 as a “devious” act of the majority bloc and the leadership itself since it already converts the House of Representatives into a Constituent Assembly without any formal announcement to the public.
“It’s de facto—converting House into a Con-Ass without public knowing it!” said Villarin.
“RBH15 is an attempt by SGMA to project herself as relevant, a go-to ally of President Rodrigo Duterte and tries to accommodate self-serving agendas of no term limits and no ban on political dynasties under draft constitution,” Villarin added.
Aside from the proposed lifting of term limits for members of Congress, Villarin said the draft charter’s transitory provision on succession was also unacceptable since the position of the vice president was deliberately set-aside by the House panel.
Under the proposal, the Senate President instead of the Vice President will replace the president in case of death, resignation, or incapacity during the transitory period.
