2 quakes hit Catanduanes on Saturday
MANILA — Two earthquakes were recorded in Catanduanes on Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The magnitude 5 quake struck 37 kilometers northeast of the municipality of Panganiban at 2:04 a.m. It had a depth of 1 km.
Intensity 4 was felt in Panganiban, Bagamanoc, Caramoran and Vigan.
Intensity 3, on the other hand, was reported in Bato, and Intensity 2 in Legazpi City, and Sagnay, Camarines Sur.
No aftershocks were reported as of Saturday afternoon, and Phivolcs said it is not expecting any damage from the magnitude 5 quake.
At 8:24 a.m., meanwhile, a magnitude 3.4 quake hit 19 km. northeast of Panganiban. This time, it had a depth of 11 km.
There were no reported intensities, no damage and aftershocks are expected from the quake, according to Phivolcs.
Magnitude measures the energy released from the source of a quake while intensity measures the strength of shaking produced by a temblor at a certain location.
