A betting station guised as a restaurant in Bulacan was supposedly given the blessing to operate by the mayor and son of Jesus is Lord founder Bro. Eddie Villanueva , columnist Erwin Tulfo said.
“What’s this I heard about a restaurant in Bocaue, Bulacan, that has turned itself into a big betting station for cockfighting aficionados?” Tulfo wrote in his newspaper column at “Manila Times” on Aug. 2, 2015.
Tulfo said his spy told him the restaurant in Bocaue, Bulacan owned by an alleged gambling lord “Don Ombong” was equipped with a live video streaming of various derby events nationwide. The video streaming was supposedly provided by cockfighting enthusiast Patrick Antonio.
Tulfo said in the “Sabungero grill,” “game’s aficionados get to place wagers on a series of matches between pairs of slashers.”
“According to my spy, among those often seen at the illegal video cockfight gambling front are local government officials and prominent businessmen in the area and nearby towns who put up bets starting at P10,000 to a few million pesos,” Tulfo said.
“Meanwhile, local Philippine National Police authorities have kept their hands off this illegal gambling hub for obvious reason,” he added.
Tulfo said the restaurant was given a business permit for dining services by Mayor Jonjon Villanueva, son of Bro. Eddie.
“It behooves Mayor Jonjon Villanueva to shut down this restaurant cum gambling joint as it is not only against the law but also runs against the preachings of his father, Bro, Eddie Villanueva,” he said.
Mayor Jonjon is also the brother of Tesda secretary Joel Villanueva, who is reportedly included in the Senate shortlist of President Aquino’s Liberal Party for the 2016 elections.
