Former Sen. Panfilo Lacson has been excluded from the senatorial slate of tandem of presidential candidate, Sen. Grace Poe, and her running-mate, Sen. Francis Escudero, since he already enjoys the support of two major political parties.
While they are not mandating that their guest candidates should support the president and/or vice-president, Poe noted it will be awkward for a guest candidate to be supporting the platform of a candidate from another political party.
“Di naman porke’t galign sila sa ibang partido basta may maiiaambag sila , maganda siyempre na kami ang kanilang susuportahan, sapagkat parang awkward naman na sasama kayo sa amin pero iba naman ang pinaniniwalaan ninyong plataporma halimbawa,” Poe said.
Poe cited reasons why Lacson was replaced despite being initially tapped to join their senatorial slate.
Although Lacson is a sure winner because of his good credentials, Poe said there is a need to give other candidates a chance at the Senate seat.
“Si Sen. Ping magaling, nung una kaming nagusap, isa siya sa inimbitahan namin na sumama sa slate. Ngunit nung nagfile na, ang isang admin party, dinadala na siya, at ang isang malakas na opposition party tulad ng UNA, dinadala rin siya,” Poe said in an interview.
Poe made the comment on Tuesday during a business forum at Marriot Hotel in Pasay City.
Poe also cited her experience in 2013 when she was not faring in the poll surveys but given the opportunity by the current administration.
“Nung ako kasi ay tumakbo noon, malayo rin naman ako sa survey pero nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon ng administrasyon,” she said.
During their previous negotiations, Poe said Lacson also admitted that he also is not sure yet about the mechanics of joining their slate.
Lacson has been adopted as guest candidate of the Liberal Party led by its standard bearer, Sec. Mar Roxas II, and the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) which is fielding Vice-President Jejomar Binay for the 2016 national polls.
Lacson claimed he was informed by Poe last Friday that actor Edu Manzano will be substituting for him in the Poe-Escudero senatorial slate. The 12-man slate will be formally announced this Thursday (Oct. 29, 2015).
