Diehard Liberal Party supporter Carlos Celdran has asked President-elect Rodrigo Duterte to resign even before he takes his oath of office on June 30.
In a petition on change.org, Celdran said Duterte has proven himself “unworthy, unstable, and unfit to run a nation of 100 million people” in the weeks that have passed since the May 9 elections.
He cited as proof Duterte’s inability his word war with journalists, saying majority of those who were killed were corrupt; his supposed disrespect for women; use of homophobic language; and the appointments of Las Piñas Rep. Mark Villar to head the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Perfecto Yasay to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Celdran also slammed the President-elect for supposedly insulting the United Nations, Singapore, Australia, Pope Francis and people with disabilities in his press conferences, and his admission that Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is his friend.
As if those reasons were not enough, the outspoken activist and tour guide said Duterte’s “constant surreal” midnight press conferences “have shown us all that you are ill-tempered, erratic, perverted, and a proud advocate of human rights violations.”
“You yourself have said that you will not die if you weren’t president. As a man of honor, keep your word. Do not accept the job as President of the Philippines. Please resign. Now,” Celdran said in his petition.
As of mid-afternoon of June 17, Celdran’s petition has garnered over 4,900 signatories.
It remains unclear what the online keyboard warrior wants to accomplish with his petition since the Constitution provides that the Vice President-elect will only act as President in a temporary capacity until the President-elect qualifies.
Outgoing Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo, an LP stalwart, is the Vice President-elect.
Once Duterte takes his oath as president, he can only be removed via impeachment.
