Two prominent businessmen Carlos Chan and Cebu-based Fernando “Ding” Borja are part of President Duterte’s official delegation as special envoys to Beijing during his state visit from Oct. 18 to 21 this year.
Apart from former president Fidel Ramos, Duterte has appointed Chan and Fernando as special envoys to China.
Chan is a prominent Chinese Filipino entrepreneur based in Manila and China. His father, Chan Lib and his mother, See Ying are from Fujian, Mainland China. Chan oversees family-owned company, Liwayway Marketing, which manufactures the popular Oishi snack foods. A low-profile businessman, Carlos is also the brother of Ben Chan of the popular Bench brand.
Meanwhile, Borja is president of Adnama Mining Resources, Incorporated (AMRI),
Reports said Duterte also attended the wedding of the mining executive’s daughter, Beatriz Amanda Borja, at the Shangri-La Mactan on June 25.
Among those who are part of the delegation were Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, Freign Affairs Sec. Perfecto Yasay, Finance Sec. Carlos Dominguez, Agriculture Sec. Manny Pinol, Defense Sec. Delfin Lorenzana, Public Works Sec. Mark Villar, Trade Sec. Ramon Lopez, DILG Sec. Ismael Sueno, Tourism Sec. Wanda Teo, NEDA secretary general Ernesto Pernia, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon, PCO chief Sec. Martin Andanar, Presidential peace adviser Jesus Dureza, Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella, Special Assistant Christopher Lawrence Go and Senators Win Gatchalian and Alan Peter Cayetano.
