Will Bongbong Marcos run for President or Vice President or return to the Senate?
Senator Imee Marcos on Thursday said her brother, former Senator Bongbong Marcos, is keeping his options open as he talks with prospective running mates ahead of the 2022 elections.
She said Bongbong is still considering a run for president in the 2022 elections but he is not ruling out the possibility of sliding down to become the vice presidential candidate of Davao Mayor Sara Duterte.
Asked in an ANC interview if her brother was no longer considering a presidential run, Marcos said that was not the case.
“No, it’s not. For all intents and purposes, he has his own set-up, and he is running for President at the present time, but not officially declared. But he’s walking around with the possibility of a top spot,” she said.
But Marcos said Bongbong, who was defeated in the vice presidential race in 2016, was keeping his options open.
“Well, my brother is a fairly easygoing fellow and I believe that he is happy to talk to everyone. Right now, people are saying that he should run for the Presidency, others the Vice Presidency,” she said.
Imee made the statement a day after Sara revealed that President Rodrigo Duterte suggested that she pick Senator Bong Go as her running mate should she decide to run for president.
Imee clarified that the Marcoses were not taking sides in the Sara-Bong Go tussle. “I don’t like to take sides. Hindi naman ako taga-Davao na kailangan ganito o ganyan. I think it’s possible to be friends with everyone, but clearly Senator Bong Go is a colleague in the chamber. But Mayor Sara was our boss in the campaign,” Imee said..
A return to the Senate is also an alternative plan, Imee said.
“There are others who say mag-Senate ka na lang. Sa kapatid ko, open naman siya. Ikot lang siya ng ikot. Sabi ko nga sa kanya, magpalakas na tayo,” she said.
Imee said that as his sister, she personally preferred that Bongbong withdraw from presidential contention.
“No, I don’t. The truth? As his Manang, as his older sister? I think it’s very, very difficult,” she said.
