Tongues are wagging that the youngest daughter of the late former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. is being wooed as the running mate of Vice President Leni Robredo.

Bongbong files COC for president, vows unifying leadership

The Vice President is set to make an important announcement on October 7, on the eve of the last day of filing certificates of candidacies for the 2022 elections.

‘Too nice’ Leni Robredo to decide soon on presidential bid

On Tuesday (October 5), Aquino sent Robredo a giant bouquet of blue-, yellow- and rainbow-colored flowers. The Vice President shared the blooms on her Facebook page with the caption: “Thank you for this big, beautiful bouquet of flowers, Kris [yellow heart emoji].”

Sources told Politiko that Aquino will provide the perfect foil to Marcos’ run with the revival of their families’ decades-old political rivalry.

While Aquino hasn’t figured in any of the recent voter preference surveys for potential presidential and vice presidential candidates, Politiko’s sources said her presence on the campaign trail would be effective in dousing Marcos’ latest attempt to rewrite history and redeem his family’s glory.

Sources told Politiko that Robredo’s indecision about her political plans was one of the reasons why unity talks with the camps of other presidential contenders, namely Senators Panfilo Lacson and Manny Pacquiao, and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno fell through.

Politiko’s sources said Robredo did not even offer any of the presidential contenders to be her running mate, indicating uncertainty over her own plans.

Robredo’s hope of unifying the opposition is seen to be hopeless since Lacson, Pacquiao and Moreno have already filed their COCs and selected their running mates.

Lacson will run alongside Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, while Pacquiao has chosen Buhay party-list Rep. Lito Atienza as his running mate.

Moreno has tapped physician Willie Ong as his vice presidential bet.
