The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has completed its study on the ill effects of e-sabong or online cockfighting activities, President Rodrigo Duterte said Sunday.
In a speech delivered in Pampanga, Duterte said that he may be able to decide on whether to suspend e-sabong operations by Monday.
“I tasked [Sec. Eduardo Año] to make a serious study of the e-sabong. The recommendation is on my table now. So, babasahin ko and maybe by Monday malaman natin kung ituloy natin o hindi,” the Chief Executive said.
Duterte lamented that some individuals addicted to e-sabong pawn or sell properties so they can gamble.
“There is apparently a social problem evolving sa pagpapatakbo nitong e-sabong. So, we have a problem there, and we want to be fair to everybody. We must study seriously and take into consideration yung social issues,” according to him.
“Ang mga tawo, lahat, nagsusugal na pati mga bata. ‘Yung iba nagsasanla na ng propyedad. Sabi ko, I don’t know if this is true. So, sabi ko kay Sec Año, pag aralan mo,” he added.
